A DESIGNER'S PERSPECTIVE
ASME is a contemporary knitwear brand founded by designer Emma Jethwa on the west coast of Ireland. Drawing on more than two decades of experience in luxury fashion, the brand explores colour, texture and traditional hand techniques through a distinctly modern lens.
Before establishing ASME, Emma led and designed knitwear for fashion houses including Chloé, Burberry and JW Anderson, and more recently worked with Wales Bonner and Martine Rose. Her career has been defined by an understanding of exceptional yarns, specialist techniques and the possibilities of knitwear as both garment and textile.
A Practice Rooted in Craft
The foundations of this practice began much earlier. Emma learnt to knit, sew, mend and embroider from her grandmother. These traditional skills, passed between generations, established an instinctive relationship with material and making that continues to inform her work today.
ASME brings these two histories together: the knowledge and precision of luxury fashion with the intimacy and individuality of the handmade.
Knitwear as Textile
Collections are developed from premium natural yarns, including Italian cashmere, silk and wool, with a focus on sculptural texture, unexpected colour and distinctive surface. Traditional techniques are reinterpreted through exaggerated proportions, fringing, knotting and ASME's signature fur-stitch to create pieces that sit between knitwear and textile object.
The Making Process
Each piece is made by hand in Ireland in deliberately limited quantities. Some pieces are made to order, allowing production to remain small, considered and closely connected to the making process.
Rooted in craft, material and Emma's Anglo-Indian heritage, ASME offers a slower and more personal approach to contemporary luxury knitwear.
